Lux2940 Skin Resurfacing
Offered at our offices right here in Lone Tree and Denver, Lux2940 Laser Skin Resurfacing is an extremely effective way to treat a variety of age and sun damage-related changes of the face. The Lux2940 laser is a fractionated, ablational laser that delivers its energy to the water in the tissues. In this way, it stimulates collagen production and removes the top layers of the skin. This allows the skin to tighten, giving way to a fresh, rejuvenated appearance.
How does the Lux2940 Laser work?
The Lux2940 laser skin resurfacing laser is a fractionated, ablational laser. The term ablational describes what happens when the laser light contacts the skin. When the Lux2940 laser contacts the skin, the energy is delivered to the water in the tisuses. The tissue is rapidly heated and the tissue is vaporized. Fractionated means that instead of a solid beam of light, the Lux2940 laser is split up into many tiny microbeams. This leaves islands of skin that are unaffected with the laser, which leads to fast healing of the skin. The energy that is delivered to the skin stimulates collagen production which, in turn, tightens wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin.
What can I expect after treatment?
Immediately after the procedure, there are pinpoint areas of bleeding on the skin. These areas heal very quickly and in 3 days the skin looks like a bad sunburn. Over the next 3 to 4 days, the skin continues to heal and you may experience peeling. There is a moderate burning sensation the night after the procedure that can be lessened with cold compresses.
What is the downtime?
Most patients take 5 to 7 days off from work following this procedure. After 48 hours of healing, the skin will look like a mild to moderate sunburn. Mineral makeup can be used after 48 hours. Michelle Young recommends Glö mineral makeup (link coming soon!) for use after Lux2940 treatment.
When do the results appear?
The Lux2940 laser works by stimulating collagen formation in the skin. The energy from the laser sets in motion a cascade of events that causes collagen to be produced. However, this occurs rather slowly and the results from treatment won’t start to appear for 3 months. The best results generally are seen after 6 months.

What are possible side effects?

- Mild discomfort
- Peeling of skin
- Small skin cysts
- Clear drainage
- Pinpoint bleeding
Worsening of acne can occur, but this can usually be treated with topical preparations or a short course of antibiotics. After the procedure, the skin will be darker than normal.
