Lux1540 Laser Skin Resurfacing – Lone Tree

Lux1540 Laser Skin Resurfacing is new technology that can achieve great results with very little downtime.  The Lux1540 laser delivers its energy to the water in the tissues.  In this way, it stimulates collagen production while limiting amount of injury to the skin.

How does the Lux1540 Laser work?

The Lux1540 laser is a fractionated, nonablational laser.  Nonablational indicates that when the laser light contacts the skin the energy is delivered in a gentle manner, which decreases the time it takes to heal the skin.  Fractionated means that instead of a solid beam of light, the Lux1540 skin resurfacing laser is split up into many tiny microbeams.  This leaves islands of skin unaffected with the laser, which also leads to fast healing of the skin.  This stimulates collagen production which, in turn, tightens wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin.

What can I expect after treatment?

Immediately after the procedure, the skin is red and mildly swollen.  By evening, the redness will already begin to subside.  The treated areas will heal very quickly and by the next day the skin looks like a bad sunburn.  Over the next 3 to 4 days, the skin continues to heal and you may experience peeling.  There is a moderate burning sensation the night after the procedure that can be lessened with cold compresses.

What is the downtime?

Many patients will say that there is no downtime.  We advise that patients take off work the day of and the day after the procedure.  After 48 hours of healing, the skin will look like a mild to moderate sunburn.  Mineral makeup can be used at that time to lessen any redness.

What does the Lux1540 laser treat?

  • Mild to moderate wrinkles
  • Skin color irregularities
  • Facial scars
  • Texture irregularities
  • Stretchmarks (New FDA Approval!)

What are possible side effects?

The following are expected side effects which typically resolve within 3 days:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Mild discomfort
  • Peeling of skin

Worsening of acne can occur, but this can usually be treated with topical preparations or a short course of antibiotics.  After the procedure, the skin will be darker than normal.  This is typically transient and resolves over time.  Rarely, the skin can become too light after treatment, which can be permanent.
